Jeddah for the 12th meeting of the Roundtable on Financing Water!

On behalf of the OECD Secretariat and the Islamic Development Bank, please save the date for the 12th Roundtable on Financing Water, which will be a thematic meeting on "Strengthening the sustainability of water investments: alternative financing approaches and models". The thematic meeting will be held on 16-17 April 2025 at the Islamic Development Bank Headquarters in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia (and hybrid).

The 12th meeting of the Roundtable on Financing Water aims to explore funding and financing models that can foster greater sustainability and resilience of water-related investments, including Islamic financing models. The Roundtable meeting will also explore how Islamic Finance principles and instruments (notably a focus on risk and profit-sharing, as well as asset-backed finance, etc.) can be leveraged to support more sustainable water investments. Sessions will focus on:  Restructuring finance for water with further emphasis on the quality of finance and a better sharing of risks and rewards between capital providers and recipients; Redesigning Public-Private Partnerships for water: Developing sustainable models; Unlocking capital markets for water: Leveraging green and sustainable bond/sukuk finance for freshwater-related investments; Examining result-based financing and its potential for financing sustainable water investments; Promoting social equity through water investments, including through philanthropy and (Islamic) social finance; Exploring the untapped potential of Islamic finance for sustainable water investments.

The 12th meeting of the Roundtable on Financing Water will aim to help inform the finance agendas of the UN 2026 Water Conference and the 11th World Water Forum.
